Green “Monster” Smoothie

Jump to Recipe

Green Smoothies might not have the best reputation, but this kind of smoothie is not to be underestimated.

Green smoothies don’t have to be disgusting or taste like mud or whatever people might say these days. I believe that with the right amount of fruit combined with some greens is the key to a good green smoothie. About 1/3 greens and 2/3 fruit make the perfect combination.

Another thing that I’d love to mention is that green smoothies are not only for healthy and sporty people, they are for EVERYONE.

No matter what age, sporty or not, my little sister really enjoys my green smoothies and she is a teenager (they are the hardest to convince them of their greatness). Mostly she looks at them and mentions something like “this does not look so good” or “does it really taste good?” but when she tries the first sip, she is satisfied and enjoys the rest of this green looking drink.

This is what I love most about it – healthy does not have to taste healthy, it just tastes incredibly good!

For this green smoothie is used apricots, because it was apricot season in Austria. You can simply replace them with either peaches or apples if you don’t like them or don’t have apricots available at that time. Instead of throwing green lettuce into it I used some spinach leaves, you can take fresh, cooked or frozen spinach leaves. About the spinach: no one and I am not kidding, but actually, not one person who tasted this smoothie could guess that there was spinach in it!

What I love to put into all of my smoothies is banana because it gives this creamy texture and enough sweetness to it. I also added flaxseeds (or chia seeds) which are totally optional, I’m just a huge fan of these little heroes.

I hope you enjoy this green smoothie and maybe you can get some of your friends or family to taste it as well. Spread the love for green smoothies!
