If you eat vegan a lot or you are a full-time vegan you might know that it is not (always) about recreating a traditional dish or product one-to-one. It simply is not possible. Sure, there are lots of meals and products out there that make amazing substitutes, but especially when we make homemade meals this is not always the case. And this is what I LOVE so much about vegan meals. They taste similar to the original meals but still amazing in their own special way. And I think that everyone should value that. This vegan parmesan cheese does not melt but still adds this incredible creamy texture to your meal!
Only 3 ingredients!
For this vegan parmesan cheese, you only need 3 simple ingredients. Nuts, nutritional yeast, and salt. There are different kinds of nuts you can use. The most commonly used nuts are cashews, but I also made some parmesan with almonds as well. Even though I never tried it, you can also take walnuts or pecans.
Also, be sure to style up your vegan parmesan cheese the way you like it the most. You can add some dried garlic or chili powder if you like it spicy.
Make this vegan parmesan cheese nut-free!
If you are allergic to nuts you can replace them with sesame seeds! It is that simple. I really like both ways, but what I need to mention is that the flavor of sesame seeds comes in much stronger and they make the parmesan a little bitter. You need to balance that a bit by adding more nutritional yeast. Try out the nut-free parmesan cheese version as well! It’s a really interesting and tasty combination.

Vegan Parmesan Cheese
For the parmesan cheese
- 300 g cashew nuts or almonds, walnuts
- 40 g nutritional yeast
- 2 tbsp salt
For the nut-free parmesan cheese
- 200 g sesame seeds
- 140 g nutritional yeast
- 2 tbsp salt
- Put all of the ingredients in a food processor or blender.
- Blend the ingredients for about 30 seconds, it depends on how grainy you like your vegan parmesan cheese
